The EDAN DDI Workshop
and the CESSDA Expert Seminar, Bucharest - Romania 2002 will take
place between 18th and 20th of September at the RODA building from
no.1 Schitu Magureanu Bd. (see map)
These events are jointly organized by RODA
and GESIS, highly
supported by the Institute for Quality
of Life Reseach and Faculty
of Sociology and Social Work, University
of Bucharest.
RODA is located in the Bulandra Theater building, right in front
of the Izvor Bridge. Our office can be found at the 5th floor, room
15.
Registration:
Please send an e-mail to:
Adrian Dusa (adi@roda.ro) or
Brigitte Hausstein (hausstein@berlin.iz-soz.de).
We will offer any information you need.
How
to arrive to RODA:
From Otopeni
international airport:
The airport is situated 16km North of Bucharest. The best way to
get to Bucharest is a taxi. There are shuttle buses available (bus
number 783) every 30-60 minutes, but they stop running on 22:30.
The price for a bus ride is approximately 1 EURO (roughly 33,000
LEI).
A taxi ride from the airport to the center of Bucharest (where the
hotel is situated) should not exceed 6 or 7 EURO (roughly 200,000
LEI).
VERY
IMPORTANT!!
DO NOT under any circumstances take a taxi from the airport area,
as they are NOT certified taxi drivers and might charge between
30 and 100 EURO for a ride!! They can't offer receipts, either.
We will do our best
to have a contact person waiting at the airport who will order a
taxi for you, but in case your plain arrives late in the night or
very early in the morning, here are some certified taxi companies
(they charge between 4,500 and 5,000 LEI per kilometer):
Cobalcescu (tel.
no. 9451)
Cristaxi (tel. no. 9421, 9461, 9466)
Alexander (tel. no. 9651, 9601)
Taxi 2000 (tel. no. 9494)
There are public phones inside the airport, and a phone card costs
80,000 or 100,000 LEI.
From Gara
de Nord train station:
Take the bus number 85 which will take you to the Kogalniceanu Square,
or bus number 123 which will take you to the Izvor Bridge. From
both these bus-stops, you can reach RODA within 1 minute (see
map).
A bus ticket within Bucharest costs 6,000 LEI.
Please be aware of the pickpockets, at all times and especially
inside the buses!!
You can find
more information about Bucharest public transportation here.
Changing money:
The Romanian
currency is called LEU (LEI for plural).
At August 30, the exchange rate was 32,722 LEI to 1 EURO and 51,521
LEI for 1 GBP.
Do consider that these may vary slightly because of the inflation.
There are 500,000;
100,000; 50,000; 10,000; and 2,000 LEI bills, and 5,000; 1,000 and
500 coins.
To change small
amounts of money, there are Exchange houses opened inside the airport
(they generally offer lower exchange rates than in Bucharest, though).
ATMs are available at Bucharest banks, and there is an ATM right
inside the RODA building (see map).
There are plenty of exchange houses in the Seminar area, opened
from 9AM to 6PM.
No exchange
commission is charged.
Accommodation and Meals:
We have arranged
the accommodation at the Hotel Central*** on 13 Brezoianu St. It
is the closest hotel to our location (about 3 minutes walking time);
there is a discount of 37.5% for these events.
The regular price for a single room is 80 EURO throughout the week
and 75 EURO for week-end.
Please send us the details regarding your arrival/departure, to
make the hotel arrangements for you.
Breakfast will
be served at the hotel, and both dinners (Wednesday and Thursday)
will be supported by RODA. For lunch, we arranged to serve it at
the University restaurant: delicious food – two courses and
a desert plus refreshments. A
lunch there costs around 5 EURO.
Restaurants:
We recommend TERASA DOAMNEI and CASA GORJANA, two restaurants
with very good Romanian dishes.
